So you’re finally heading on that dream surf trip to the Ments, but then comes the most important, but agonising decisions. What boards should you take to make the most of your adventures.
Although there are dreams of 5-6 ft barrels all day long, or possibly even chasing huge 8ft tubes, the ments can serve up just about any wave possible.
Board 1.
The most important board, would be your performance barrel board. For me, its my JS Monster Box. In 4-6ft reef breaks, this board has been the favourite in my quiver. I generally ride shorter boards than the average person of my size and weight, so mine is a 5’10 epoxy.
Board 2.
I am loving the look of the new JS Schooner and from all reports, this is another perfect choice for those hollow days in the Ments
Now not every day is big, if your unfortunate to get a small or flat swell, you will want your every day beach break board on hand.
And of course if your chasing larger waves. A step up is a must have for the Indo quiver. I have a 6’3, for when it gets above 6ft, and just incase, I have a 6’6 as well.
Another thing to consider, is the chances of snapping boards on those fast hollow reefs is extremely high. So making sure you have a back up of your every day board, and your favourite barrel hunter is definitely something to think about.
